Domaine de l'Anglore is a name that speaks to any self-respecting natural wine lover! The estate founded by Marie and Eric Pfifferling extends over approximately 18 hectares of vines, in Tavel in the Gard. All the vines are cultivated organically and the wines produced by L'Anglore are distinguished by their precision, their authenticity and their gourmet character. Eric Pfifferling is praised by the entire living wine community for his ability to infuse his wines with rare emotional depth and aromatic subtlety. Anglore wines are often referred to as "southern Beaujolais" due to their fruity, taut and fresh character, despite being in the southern Rhône region. However, these wines are not just light; they possess substantial depth. Eric Pfifferling is a strong advocate of natural wine, which is reflected in his winemaking practices. Initially, Eric was a beekeeper-winekeeper, active within a wine cooperative. The loss of his beehives and grape harvest during the devastating storms of 2002 marked a turning point in his career. He decided to leave the Tavel cooperative to devote himself entirely to his own domain: Anglore. He banned chemical treatments, favoring a biodynamic approach to viticulture, while seeking to maintain the balance between "weeds" and the vines. Three types of terroir coexist in Tavel: rolled pebbles, slate and sand. Eric and his wife, Marie, are the historic artisans of the estate. They prioritize the care given to soils and plants. The harvest is manual, and the grapes are treated with the greatest respect. Vinification takes place in whole clusters, by carbonic maceration, without the addition of exogenous yeasts. The wines are neither filtered nor mechanically pumped, in order to preserve their authenticity and liveliness. These characteristics make Anglore wines unique and far from the standard standards defined by appellation bodies. Eric Pfifferling is a pioneer who has influenced many other winegrowers around the world. His estate is a family business where his sons, Thibaud and Joris, naturally embraced the philosophy of the house. And the two sons do not hesitate to develop the estate's practices to push the quality of the wines even further. Single-plot vintages, long aging on lees then in bottle... a new page for the Anglore estate!

A superb boutique offering some very fine natural wines that are off the beaten track. The only downside is that the bottles are very expensive overall: it would be nice to see a wider range of affordable/pleasurable wines.

Several specifications correspond to these denominations. Here's an overview of the different organic, biodynamic and natural specifications:Organic specifications (AB label) prohibit all use of synthetic chemicals in the vineyard and cellar. It does, however, allow for a few oenological crutches during vinification. Sulfites, for example, are tolerated up to 100 mg/L for red wines and 150 mg/L for whites. In biodynamic viticulture (Demeter or Biodyvin label), the winemaker not only works without synthetic chemicals, but also takes into account the lunar calendar for all the operations he carries out. He also uses biodynamic preparations (fermented horn dung, silica, plant teas, etc.) to strengthen the vines. Overall, the winegrower seeks to integrate vine cultivation into a global environment. Sulphites can be as low as 70 mg/L for reds and 90 mg/L for whites. In Vin Méthode Nature, the specifications specify the use of organic grapes, fermented naturally with indigenous yeasts (as in biodynamic viticulture). Natural wines receive no inputs during vinification or ageing. Only minimal doses of SO2 are permitted (30 mg/L maximum), and must be specified by the winemaker. No brutal filtration or alteration techniques are permitted. We also find the Vins SAINS designation, which aims to ban the use of sulfites altogether.

Our aim is to offer you wines made by artisans, from small-scale estates, often family-run. That's why we take the time to travel the length and breadth of France, from vineyard to vineyard, in search of the natural wines that make us tick. We're particularly keen to help you discover the new winemakers of tomorrow, who are working tirelessly to bring us magnificent wines. We want to showcase them, give them greater, clearer visibility, and accompany them all the way to you!
