Romain Le Bars

Romain Le Bars, a natural winemaker based in Tavel, in the Gard, is a young talent whose reputation continues to grow from year to year. It is already recognized worldwide, although it has only recently launched. His rise can be attributed in part to his experience of almost 7 years with Eric Pfifferling, winemaker of the famous l’Anglore. In 2018, Romain embarked on the wine adventure with only 1.20 hectares of vines, making wine in his small garage. Today, he farms around ten hectares and has a slightly larger cellar, but still imbued with this artisanal approach. The Tetris metaphor seems to apply well to the way he manages his space!
Romain Le Bars attaches great importance to organic viticulture and soil care. He considers that knowledge of the soils and the environment of his vines is essential. Romain produces precise and delicious vintages, mainly vinified in carbonic maceration, with spontaneous fermentations and minimal use of inputs, sometimes a slight addition of sulphites. Its wines bear the signatures of the AOC Tavel, Lirac, and even Vin de France terroirs. He embodies the new generation of winemakers who are doing wonders in this region alongside Valentin Vallès, Lolita Sene, Lori Haon and Les Frères Soulier, to name just a few.
Romain Le Bars has an unusual history. A Parisian, he began studying law, which he quickly abandoned to work in the restaurant sector. However, he and his wife eventually tire of the frantic and atypical pace of this environment. One evening, while sharing a bottle of Tavel de l'Anglore with his father, he realized that he too would like to know how to make wine. He then embarked on training in viticulture in Saumur, did internships at Château Yvonne, and in 2012, met Eric Pfifferling, expressing his desire to work alongside him. It's the start of seven years at Anglore. In 2018, Romain begins his own adventure. It quickly expanded and obtained 1.20 hectares of AOC Tavel and 10 hectares of AOC Lirac and Vin de Pays. A remarkable adventure that begins with a first vintage of great quality.
He also wishes to develop the standards of the appellation and is actively involved in the wine sector. Romain Le Bars is undeniably a rising star of Tavel wines, who portends a promising future.
