Domaine Gramenon
Domaine Gramenon is Michèle Aubery-Laurent, and is it really still necessary to present this great lady of natural wine?
Michèle moved with her husband Philippe in 1978 to Montbrison-sur-lez in the heart of Drôme Provençale, they bought a building surrounded by 12 hectares of vines at an altitude of 350m. The particularity of the estate is its terroir, located in the northernmost part of the southern Côtes du Rhône, it comes from a bar of limestone, a tidalite, which was, more than 86 million years ago, covered by the Wed. Philippe and Michèle work their vines in a natural and organic way, and then produce wines which will quickly be recognized as true gems by the community of amateurs. Unfortunately Philippe Laurent disappeared in 1999 following an accident. Michèle then decides to stand up and continue the adventure alone. In 2006 she was joined by her son Maxime-François, who manages the estate today. In 2010 the estate was certified Demeter, recognition of biodynamic agriculture.
The Gramenon estate currently has more than 26 hectares worked biodynamically where Grenache reigns supreme with more than 65% of the vines. Some plots of old vines can be 120 years old today and in addition to Grenache we can also find Viognier, Syrah, Clairette and Cinsault.
All winemaking is done with the least violent handling of the grapes and without any inputs. The wines of Michèle and Maxime-François are wines of great class, emotion and elegance, wines which let the grape varieties speak as much as their terroirs. Real jewels.
