The Justices
Sophie and Clément Maire-Kurdziel are both qualified oenologists from Montpellier and have lived in the Loire Valley since 2011.
The story of the Les Justices estate begins in 2018 when Sophie and Clément found a very old vine planted with mass selection Cabernet Franc, in the heart of Rabelaisie and the Chinon appellation, at a place called “Les Justices”. It was obvious to run the vineyard organically and practice winemaking that respects the terroir, without inputs.
It was in 2019, in addition to the Les Justices plot, that they bought a few kilos of grapes in the heart of the Saumur Champigny appellation, in the place called “Boutifolle”. An atypical blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, aged 100% in 2-wine barrels, this new micro-cuvée - Petite Folle - denotes traditional Loire wines.
In 2020, in addition to their two micro-cuvées, they wish to vinify a natural sparkling rosé - Justices Sauvages, a white from Chenin on the flint clay terroirs of Turquant - Juste, and a crunchy red produced on limestone soils of Saint Cyr en Bourg – La Bamboche.
Vintages that we fell in love with! Sophie and Clément Maire-Kurdziel came to see us on the island of Oléron at the very beginning of their adventure and we loved the approach and enthusiasm of the estate, so much so that we offer their wines to local restaurateurs. Delicious, crunchy vintages, to taste very quickly!
