Olga Raffault

Domaine Olga Raffault, located in Chinon, France, has a rich history and a winemaking tradition rooted in five generations. This story begins with Olga Raffault and her husband, Pierre, who jointly developed the estate until Pierre's sudden death in 1947. At that point, Olga, a widow and mother of two, continued to produce wines renowned with the help of Ernest Zeinninger, a German soldier taken prisoner of war at the end of the war but released under the protection of the Raffault family and became a great friend of the family. The estate extends over 25 hectares in Savigny-en-Véron, between the Loire and the Vienne. The Raffault family, led today by Sylvie and her husband Eric de la Vigerie, strives to maintain tradition and promote the fabulous terroirs and wines of Chinon. The estate has been in organic farming since 2013, favoring traditional farming methods to preserve the identity of the terroir, microclimate and grape variety. The vines, on average 30 years old, produce Chinon wines of exceptional depth and intensity. The “Les Barnabés” vintage, made from sandy-gravel plains, has aromas of red fruits and is appreciated for its freshness and fruity character. The “Les Peuilles” vintage, produced on clay-siliceous plateaus, is more intense and evolved. The “Les Picasses” cuvée, made from clay-limestone hillsides, offers very ripe black fruits and is designed for aging. The oldest plots are reserved for the “Singulière,” which results from two years of aging. Domaine Olga Raffault also produces a Chinon Blanc in organic conversion, offering aromas of citrus, yellow apple and redcurrant, as well as great minerality. In summary, Domaine Olga Raffault, driven by a passion for wine and respect for the terroir, perpetuates a family wine history that began several generations ago. The Chinon wines they produce are the result of careful care and a commitment to organic farming, and they embody the authenticity and tradition of this beautiful wine region.
