Thierry Michon
In 1960, Patrice Michon decided to put down his roots in Brem-sur-Mer, a haven in Vendée, where he farmed a few hectares of vines inherited from his father. In the 1980s, his two sons Eric and Thierry contributed to a major turning point for the estate. Together, they relocated their winery to Île d'Olonne, convinced of the potential of the Olonnes terroir. They invested in the acquisition of new plots, initiating a wine journey that continues to this day.
In 2013, the passion for vines and wine was passed on to the third generation of the Michon family when Antoine, son of Thierry, joined the Saint-Nicolas estate. The common thread of the estate since its beginnings has always been the production of healthy wines. In 1995, the estate converted to biodynamics.
Under the beneficial influence of the ocean, Domaine Saint-Nicolas produces exceptional wines. Among the grape varieties grown, we find Chenin and Chardonnay for the whites, characterized by aromas of yellow stone fruits and a saline finish. The reds, including Pinot Noir (represented by vintages such as Jacques and La Grande Pièce), Gamay, Négrette and Cabernet Franc, benefit from long aging, offering wines of great elegance.
With a total surface area of 32 hectares, the vintages of Domaine Saint-Nicolas are characterized by finesse and minerality. The wines surprise with their particularly saline character, a reflection of the influence of the ocean. We find lots of delicate aromas of white flowers, vine peach, buttery, lemony and sweet almond evocations in Thierry Michon's vintages. The imprint of the sea, with its characteristic tension, is felt at each stage of the tasting, giving the wines a unique identity.
Domaine Saint-Nicolas embodies a true treasure of viticulture, where respect for nature and the quest for excellence are the key words. We encourage you to taste!
