Valentin Morel
Les Pieds sur Terre: Valentin Morel's return to his roots
From public service to Jura vineyards
After studying law and a few years of work in a position in the prefecture, Valentin Morel decided to reconnect with his peasant origins by carrying out a total reconversion. The young winemaker is therefore back on the family land in Poligny, and took over the estate in 2014, which he renamed Les Pieds sur Terre in homage to all the winegrowers who chose, before him, a cultivation method often mocked and yet visionary according to Valentin. His father supported him in his work until his retirement in 2018.
Committed biodynamic viticulture
From the start, Valentin wanted to work the 7.5 hectares of the estate differently by cultivating it organically and biodynamically. He therefore uses, among other things, the pickaxe to work his very beautiful local terroirs made of clay, limestone and gray and blue marl by hand.
Natural wines, clean and precise
In the cellar, Valentin Morel produces natural Jura wines by vinifying without inputs and with as little addition of sulfur as possible. All of its wines come from its production which is a beautiful collection of different local Jura grape varieties, such as Poulsard, Trousseau, Pinot Noir for red wines, and Chardonnay and Savagnin for whites.
Experimentation shaping the future
He also works on hybrid grape varieties in order to limit the inputs in the vineyard to always give us straight and elegant natural wines, he has also written a great book on this subject. A young winemaker to follow!
