Domain of Thalie
Domaine de Thalie is a small estate in Clunisois founded in 2009 by Peter Gierszewski. Facing due west, the estate cultivates Gamay, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and... Syrah! Peter is one of the rare winegrowers in this micro-appellation of Mâcon-Bray.
From the start, he was keen to cultivate his vines organically. His peasant common sense, his love of the plant and his convictions naturally pushed him to adopt this method of cultivation. It is on these 4.5 hectares of vines that Peter can today, 10 years later, look back and admire the progress he has made.
The soils vary between the clay-limestone typical of the Mâconnais, red granite sands and iridescent marls from the Triassic. Most of the vines are located around 300m above sea level. In the vineyards, Peter uses no synthetic chemicals, no weedkillers, no insecticides, and no fungicides.
All the wines ferment with indigenous yeasts, the macerations are carried out depending on the grape varieties either by carbonic maceration or by destemming. The wines are unfined, unfiltered.
Plutonic, Megalith, Pierres Levées, Cosmic… evocative names which demonstrate Peter's interest in geobiology. The objective is to offer distinctive, fresh and delicious wines, which reflect with purity and precision the different soils and grape varieties of this little corner of Burgundy.
