La Part aux Groles
Julien Desrante is a winemaker from the Charente region, and one of the few to offer natural wine. In search, since 2011, of a vineyard to take over in order to go organic, Julien got his hands on a plot of land that had already been converted in 2014. The La Part aux Groles adventure could begin.
Initially, he bought and vinified his first grapes with the help of friends and family. An enthusiast of organic, natural and living wines, Julien's work is directly in line with this approach: manual harvesting and de-stemming, punching down of the cap, non-invasive winemaking, bottling without fining or filtration, favoring "gentle" methods wherever possible.
After 9 years of research, Julien took over an estate in Julienne. It comprises 11.9 ha for Cognac production and 1.9 hafor his VSIG cuvées. As some of the vines are very young, Julien continues to buy organic grapes.
Treatments are based on copper and sulfur (supplemented by citrus essential oils and plant extracts). Soil work is mechanized, and animal traction is under consideration. Julien Desrante carries out the simple Guyot-Poussardpruning, as well as most of the manual work.
