Château Lafitte

The oldest existing traces of Château Lafitte date back to the 14th century when we already found this stately house surrounded by vineyards between Pau and Oloron Sainte-Marie, in the heart of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. More than thirty years ago, Philippe and Brigitte Arraou decided to recover this building in order to establish themselves there, and above all, in order to embark on a somewhat crazy project: that of becoming winegrowers. In 2012, it was the turn of their son Antoine to take up the torch of these 5 hectares and to be able to express his passion for these terroirs and these very particular grape varieties of Jurançon, namely Petit and Gros Manseng. Antoine, having a fairly strong ecological sensitivity, will move the estate towards organic farming then towards biodynamics until today he arrives at having labeled his estate as Vin Method Nature. Here the wines are pure, straight and without chemical inputs. But the estate's reflection will not only stop at the vines and wines, Antoine will push his vision to the construction in 2018 of a new winery meeting all his procedures: it will be a winery buried and equipped with a Canadian well, which will allow a constant and natural temperature. The entire cellar will be autonomous in terms of electricity consumption thanks to a photovoltaic roof, all rainwater will be collected for cleaning agricultural machines (we don't talk enough about water consumption in the process of creating a wine …) and finally the cellar will be built on several levels in order to be able to circulate and work the juices by gravity, without shocking them. All this demonstrates a desire and a global and sustainable vision that only a passionate person like Antoine could put in place. And he also transmitted this passion to us through these wines, pure jewels of this much abused appellation that is Jurançon.
