Antoine Petitprez
Antoine Petitprez, born in Tonnerre in Yonne, is an agricultural engineer by training. With the subject of his dissertation “The influence of the moon on vines and wine”, Antoine already knows where he wants to go. He gives courses at the École Viticole de Beaune, and lives in Pommard. After traveling the world - Chablis, California, Canada, then Nuits Saint-Georges - he landed in Savoie where he cultivated his first vines biodynamically, at the foot of the Bauges massif. Along the way, he acquired two hectares in Burgundy, and joined forces with other winegrowers to buy pretty Burgundy grapes.
It was after tasting several of his vintages that we wanted to discover the character. Antoine welcomes us to his cellar in the heart of Pommard where the 2021s are being matured. We are quickly struck by the delicacy of the wines even though they are still being aged. The whites are tense and elegant, the reds are light, delicate and fruity. We are even completely amazed by the Pommard which makes us forget all the rusticity associated with this appellation. The Savignys are not to be outdone…!
His approach is intended to be just as minimalist in the vineyard as in the cellar, in order to let the Burgundian (and Savoyard!) climates reveal themselves. Manual harvests, whole harvests, spontaneous fermentations... Antoine accompanies, pampers, monitors and tries to intervene as little as possible. The result lives up to his ambitions, Antoine Petitprez is making a name for himself among the rising values of the Burgundian vineyard.
