Domaine des Canailles
The Domaine des Canailles is above all a story of friends. Simon (Pérot) and Etienne (Ubaud) met on the benches of their BTS in wine and spirits sales in 2010. Simon then worked as a wine merchant at Antic Wine in Lyon, then he left to cut his teeth in the vineyards at Jean -François Vaillant (domaine des Grandes Vignes) in Anjou, Claire Naudin-Ferrand in Burgundy then André Perret in the Rhône. He then spent some time as manager of the Bel Air high school wine estate in Beaujolais. And it was in 2019 that he ended up buying his first plots, in the magnificent terroir of golden stones, in the south of Beaujolais, 30 km from Lyon. Étienne, for his part, took his time to go see the world. After his BTS, he will take an additional qualification in sommelier, work for a while as a wine merchant in Toulouse and above all will travel around the world for 3 years, which will lead him, among other things, to spend some time in Montreal. But it was in September 2019 that he ended up joining Simon at the estate for what was only supposed to be the harvest and which ultimately became a joint adventure. The estate now has 8 hectares of biodynamic farming, on the very particular granite soils of this region of Beaujolais (South, as we recall). The vinifications are obviously made with the purest respect for the grapes and the terroir, a slight dose of sulfur can sometimes be added during bottling if these gentlemen deem it necessary. Their wines are an ode to gluttony, sharing and aperitifs with friends. We dare you not to have a good time in their company, personally it has never happened!
