Icy Liu

Taipei-born Icy Liu has charted an atypical course since her engineering studies at Columbia University in New York. Leaving behind the classical path of finance, she explored a variety of businesses before discovering her passion for wine. Although her family are not big wine drinkers, her personal love of New York's culinary diversity led her to become involved in the world of wine, taking part in wine classes at the Astor Wine Center, for example. In 2018, against her parents' advice, Icy moved to Burgundy, where she enrolled at the Burgundy Business School and University, earning an MBA in wine with distinction and a diploma in oenology. Since 2019, she has worked at Becky Wasserman & Co, where she is in charge of social media and Asian market development. Her fascination with viticulture then led her to participate in harvests at various estates in Burgundy, New Zealand, and the United States. Icy also hosts the podcast "Ungrafted", dedicated to wine, humanity and the planet, and co-founded "Vines 4 Votes", a wine auction that raised over $50,000 for the ACLU of Texas. In 2022, at the instigation and with the help of her friend Bastian Wolber, she vinified two Gamay cuvées in Chris Santini's cellar in Auxey-Duresses. The two wines she produces today, a rosé and a red, come from the same parcel of land in the southern Beaujolais region at Saint-Germain-Nuelles.
The grapes are organically grown, with a close relationship with winemaker Fred, who has owned the plot for many years. The wines are made with as few sulfites as possible and reflect Icy's free-spirited, lively approach, inspired by the likes of Chanterêves and Claire Naudin.
