Yannick Meckert

Yannick Meckert grew up between Burgundy and Alsace. After studying viticulture-oenology in Beaune, he worked in the family estate where the chemical viticulture practiced did not suit him. He therefore decides to go around the world where he will meet among others Philippe Pacalet, Patrick Meyer, Claus Preisinger, Terada Honke, Charles Dufour... evocative names for all lovers of natural wine
We met Yannick during our harvest at Jean-Marc Dreyer in 2020. It was then the very beginning of the adventure for the Alsatian winemaker.
The estate today has 3.5 hectares of vines in Alsace and a few acres in Burgundy that Yannick shares with Bastian Wolber.
The vines are grassed on half of the estate, the other vines are sown with various plants. The treatments are based on clays, essential oils, plants, and when the cultivation of the vine requires it, a little sulfur and copper.
Very inspired by Jules Chauvet - spiritual father of natural wine - when it comes to work in the cellar, Yannick Meckert revisits the typical Alsace grape varieties through vinification with whole grapes. The breeding takes place for 1 to 2 years.

The estate is very young, and Yannick wishes to continue to manage an estate on a human scale. In order to finance the purchase of his vines, he decided in 2022 to start his trading activity. With his friend Jeanne, who owns 8 hectares on magnificent terroirs on schist and volcanic sandstone, Yannick manages to vinify high quality grapes. The biodynamic vines are worked without a tractor to minimize soil compaction, the yields are contained and the vines are not trimmed either.
