Clos Bateau
Clos Bateau is a winery founded in 2019 by Sylvie De Visser and Thierry Klok in Lantignié, in northern Beaujolais. After leaving their careers as restaurateurs in Amsterdam, they embarked on their wine adventure, guided by their passion for living wines. On their 8 hectares, 5.5 of which are planted with Gamay and Chardonnay grapes, they adopt an environmentally-friendly approach. In their quest for biodiversity, they have planted over 100 fruit and nut trees, and let their sheep graze the vines in winter to enrich the soil naturally.
Their approach is strongly committed to organic viticulture, and the estate is in the process of converting to ECOCERT certification. In the cellar, they ferment their wines with indigenous yeasts and add little sulfur, while avoiding filtering and fining to remain true to their vision of low-intervention wines.
The estate is distinguished by its commitment to rehabilitating old, abandoned vines, which they carefully cultivate despite low yields, with a view to producing grapes of the highest quality.
