Petite nature
Pauline Maziou from the Petite Nature estate is an artisan winemaker based in Ardèche . As is often the case, we met through mutual winemaker friends: it was during the first edition of our Fanfare & Pinard festival that Pauline came to Oléron to introduce us to her wines. Invited by Simon Batardière , she was able to discover Oléron and our cave.
La Fée Paulette , as she likes to call herself, created Petite Nature in 2019 after a period of professional retraining. It was in the heart of Ardèche that she trained, first with Jean Delobre at La Ferme des 7 Lunes , then with Daniel Sage . She would eventually settle there. Born into a family of farmers, they passed on to her a love of the land, and from there, little Pauline already saw her life on the farm.
At Pauline's, the work in the vineyards is obviously done by hand and with a certain attention to detail. Only her old tractor, which goes by the sweet name of Tintin, is allowed to lightly work the soil. Obviously, the vines are cultivated using organic farming , with a strong biodynamic inspiration (respect for the lunar calendar, use of herbal teas, etc.).
Pauline has a simple ambition, yet one that is complex to implement in the cellar: to cultivate her raisins as best as possible in order to be able to accompany the wines in the cellar as simply as possible. No entry allowed , support and attention. The vintages are often the result of blends, she borrows a few techniques from her peers - notably dipping - and gradually defines the contours of an inimitable style.
Pauline Maziou thus wins the hearts of many tasters, vintage after vintage, who love delicate , sincere and vibrant wines . Her small production unfortunately makes her wines often difficult to obtain, but keep your eyes open and you will be able to get your hands (and nose) on some lovely bottles of Petite Nature.
